PopIT LinX manual Learn how to insert information and images discretely into your web pages without creating clutter. |
Websites can quickly become overloaded with masses of information all fighting for space in your pages and navigation links. This adds to website clutter, and slows your website down as the browser tries to download all the information. Your visitors then find it confusing to find the info they want without having to trawl through pages of text.
PopIT LinX answers these problems by allowing you to insert extra information inside PopIT Windows which can be activated via text and image links anywhere on your page. You don't need to know anything about javascript or html to add these links; they are simple references that use plain text. They are not affected by popup blockers because they are not ordinary popup windows, so all browsers can see them.
Before you add a PopIT LinX you need to have something to link to, either a page or an image in your Media folder or an image in your Gallery.
Create a PopIT Page
You create a PopIT Page in exactly the same way that you create a standard web page in the page editor, except that you don't generaly want these pages to appear in your navigation, so you must set the visibility of your PopIT Pages to 'hidden'. click here to see how to add a hidden page
Page Section ID
Once you have created your PopIT Page you will notice that there is an ID above the page section see it here. This is the section ID that you will use in a PopIT Ref to identify which page section you want to display in your PopIT Window.
Create Multiple Page Sections
You can add multiple WYSIWYG page sections to any page like this. To add another page section click on Manage Sections at the top right of your page editor and add another WYSIWYG section - click here to see example
This means that you could create a single hidden page called (for example) PopIT Pages and add a page section for each PopIT Window that you need. Then you simply display any section by referencing the section ID in your PopIT LinX.
PopIT Page Example
Click here to see an example of a single page with two page sections in the page editor (ignore the PopIT Refs highlighted in each section - you will learn how to add these later).
The first page section has an ID of 40, so we can display this section with a PopIT LinX like this.
To display the other section (with the ID of 41) we can create another popIT LinX with a button like this
The PopIT Ref we used to display page section 40 looks like this...
[[#40:txt=PopIT LinX like this:title=this text link will open page section 40]]
The PopIT Ref used to display the page section ID 41 (as a button) looks like this...
[[#41:link=button:txt=button like this:title=this button will open page section 41]]
#40 & #41 are the page section ID's
txt is the text to be used as the link
title is the mouseover text
link is the type of LinX, text or button (the default is text)
You don't need to use all of the parameters in the PopIT Ref.
You can simply use the section ID like this: PopIT Pages
The basic PopIT Ref used to display page section 40 like the one above looks like this...
[[#40]]
The PopIT LinX uses the Page Title as the text for the link by default, so all the other PopIT Ref parameters are optional. You simply use them when you want to modify the default values.
