Preparing Photos for Display on Websites
Websites can only display photos at 72dpi resolution, which is the resolution of standard monitors. This means that you should never upload high res images for display on websites (ie: your camera takes hi res images at 300dpi).
Always prepare & resize your photos BEFORE you upload them.
If you are intending to display a photo on a web page (ie: not in your galleries) then the photo should be resized to the actual DISPLAY SIZE befoe you upload it.
For example, if your website uses a horizontal navigation menu, then you will have a max page width of approx 850 pixels, so you can't display any photos wider than 850 pixels. If you have a vertical navigation menu, then your max page width will only be approx 650 pixels.
This means that if your max page width is 850 pixels, then to insert a photo that fills half the width of the page, you will need to resize your photo width to approx 425 pixels.
Never resize photos using the website page editor.
This will distort the photo and reduce the quality while increasing the display time.
If you don't have any batch resizing software you can download excellent free tools such as Irfanview and FastStone Photo Resizer.
